Ryan Severson focuses his practice on health care regulatory matters. He regularly advises clients on a wide variety of issues, including federal and state fraud and abuse compliance, the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment and reimbursement, and others. His practice covers complex transactions between health care providers, as well, including legal compliance reviews and change of ownership filings.
Mr. Severson also has extensive experience on health care privacy and security issues, working collaboratively with clients to develop innovative new health and wellness-related products in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines and handling associated commercial contracts.
In addition, Mr. Severson works with the firm’s Public Policy and Law practice group, with an emphasis on health care policy matters relating to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, Medicare reimbursement issues, and other issues. He frequently works on legislative matters before the House Ways and Means Committee, House Energy and Commerce Committee, Senate Finance Committee, and Senate HELP Committee, as well as regulatory matters before the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr. Severson was a law clerk in the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland and a legal intern for U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, where he focused on health care legislation.
He was a summer associate at K&L Gates in 2009.
