Travis Gery is a counsel at the firm’s Harrisburg office. He is a member of the firm’s global investigations, enforcement and white collar practice group. His practice focuses on government investigations, internal investigations, white-collar defense and corporate compliance including matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money-laundering (AML), healthcare fraud, federal and state false claims acts, and other anti-corruption laws. He assists in conducting internal investigations and counseling corporations and individuals responding to government investigations conducted by state and federal enforcement and regulatory agencies. He also handles complex litigation.

Professional Background

 Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gery served as the Executive Director and Counsel to the Pennsylvania Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee. He coordinated the legislative agenda and provided policy analysis on all issues involving the public utilities (electric, gas, water, telecommunications, and common carrier), professional licensing and other matters related to consumer protection.

Mr. Gery was appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate to serve as Commissioner of Professional and Occupational Affairs. He executed the statutory duties set forth in the Administrative Code and managed and directed the 250 employees of the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) charged with providing administrative support to the 29 professional licensing boards and commissions under the jurisdiction of BPOA. He also served as a member of the professional licensing boards and commissions.

Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, he served as the Executive Deputy Chief Counsel of BPOA, an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Southern District of West Virginia, a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, a Chief Deputy District Attorney (CDDA) in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, a civil litigator with a small, boutique Philadelphia law firm and a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy.

As Executive Deputy Chief Counsel, Mr. Gery supervised and directed a staff of 53 attorneys and was responsible for the investigations and prosecutions of professional licensees for violations of the various practice acts and regulations.

As an AUSA, working with agents of the FBI, DEA, Secret Service and other federal and state law enforcement agencies, Mr. Gery directed the investigations of and prosecuted individuals and organizations engaged in criminal activity, including drug trafficking, money laundering and fraud.

As a DAG in the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering section, Mr. Gery worked with both federal and state law enforcement agencies investigating and prosecuting individuals and organizations engaged in complex criminal activity. He also provided training to the Pennsylvania State Police, agents of the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations, and local police on the conduct of money laundering and other complex investigations. As a CDDA, Mr. Gery led the multi-agency Drug Task Force and the Auto-theft and Insurance Fraud Task Force overseeing and directing the investigations and prosecuting cases arising therefrom.

As a former AUSA, DAG, and CDDA, Mr. Gery has extensive grand jury and trial experience. He has tried over 100 cases to verdict in both state and federal courts.

Mr. Gery served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy for 28 years (3 years on active duty followed by 25 years in the selected reserve) and retired with the rank of Commander. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (3), the Navy Commendation Medal (3), and the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (3).
