Mr. Chu's practice focuses on U.S. and cross-border M&A, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions for clients ranging from Fortune 500 serial acquirers (e.g., Dell, Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Corporation) to private equity funds (e.g., Oakhill Investment Management and SunTx Capital Partners) to high-growth, high-profile technology companies in the United States and abroad (e.g., Renren, Inc., formerly "Oak Pacific Interactive" and  commonly known as "China's Facebook" and "China's YouTube," Youku.com, Inc.).

While he has deal experience in a wide range of industries, Mr. Chu's practice is heavily-weighted in the technology sector. In a scorecard on www.infostor.com, for example, two of his deals made the list of "Top 10 Storage Acquisitions in 2010." Other industries in which Mr. Chu has experience include, automotive, cable TV, energy and natural resources, entertainment, financial services, fitness, healthcare, insurance, and real estate. He also has significant experience in cross-border (in-bound and outbound) with the Asia-Pacific region.

As the creator of the American Bar Association's influential M&A Deal Points Studies, Mr. Chu is widely recognized for his thought leadership that continues to shape M&A practice in the United States and abroad. He was a Founding Co-Chair of the ABA's M&A Market Trends Subcommittee, which publishes the Deal Points Studies.

Mr. Chu's leadership also extends to diversity in the legal profession with a number of transformative "Firsts," including, co-founding of the Texas Minority Counsel Program and founding of the NAPABA Partners Committee of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Mr. Chu is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University School of Law.

  • Merger of Intactix International, Inc., a then-leading provider of retail space management software with Pricer, AB, a Stockholm Exchange-listed, a then-global leader in electronic price labeling technology.
  • Private equity investment in a platform company to acquire and operate cable TV properties (sold for $4,500,000,000 and is now known as Charter Communications, Inc. (NasdaqNM:CHTR)
  • Series A and B preferred stock investments in AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (NasdaqNM:ASIA), a Beijing-based leader in internet infrastructure and software development in China.
  • Sale of DataTimes Corporation, a then-leading search engine and on-line business information company, to Bell & Howell Company (NYSE:BHW), now known as ProQuest Company (NYSE:PQE).
  • Acquisition by IPC Corporation Ltd (SES:IPC.SI), a Singapore public company and a then-leading Singapore-based information technology company, of Austin Computer Systems, a United States PC manufacturer.
  • Consolidation of two privately-held oil & gas exploration and production companies, Rising Star Energy, LP and Ricks Exploration, Inc.
