Angammah Sevasamy Shankar has been an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore for 20 years. His main area of practice has been in litigation. He started practice as a litigation lawyer doing civil and commercial litigation, matrimonial work, contentious probate cases, and criminal litigation. He has been representing corporate and individual clients in the State Courts of Singapore, High Court of Singapore, and in the Court of Appeal. In the past years his area of practice has been civil and commercial litigation and international and domestic arbitration work.
He has experience in various aspects of corporate and commercial litigation, where he has advised and acted for clients on a spectrum of cases such as shareholder disputes and breach of directors' duties, sale of goods, international trade disputes, injury related claims, etc.
He has dealt in employment matters such as disputes over employment contracts, summary termination, and restrictive covenant clauses. He has acted for employers as well as employees in such employment-related matters.
Angammah graduated from the University of London with a LLB (Hons) in 1996. He was admitted as a barrister with the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 1996. In 1998, he was admitted as an advocate and solicitor to the Singapore Bar. He is a member of the Law Society of Singapore and a member of the Singapore Academy of Law.
He has extensive experience in international and domestic arbitration work involving the Uncitral Rules, Singapore International Arbitration Centre Rules, International Chamber of Commerce Rules, and GAFTA rules. He has gained experience in arbitration cases involving various commodities like coal, fertilisers, iron, steel, agricultural products, and petrochemical products. He has also undertaken arbitration work in relation to health and medical insurance. Some of the clients whom he has acted for are Tata International Limited, Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises (a company under the Aditya Birla Group), and NTUC Income Insurance Co-Operative Ltd.
He also advises and acts for one of Singapore’s casinos in its contentious and non-contentious legal matters.
Angammah has spoken at the NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative Limited in the area law of Protection of Harassment Act. At the International Network of Boutique and Independent Law Firms (INBLF) Summit held in Singapore in 2018, he also presented a talk on the Personal Data Protection Act.
Angammah tutors and is a mentor for one of the FMS courses conducted by the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
