Daniel Farris is a partner at the firm’s Chicago office. He is also a practice group coordinator for the technology transactions and data protection practice group. Daniel is no ordinary geek. As a former software engineer and network administrator, Daniel brings real-world experience to bear in counseling clients on a wide array of technology and compliance issues, including data center operations, fiber optic networking, cloud computing, information governance, emerging technologies, and privacy and data security.
Daniel understands how technology enables a company’s operations and creates competitive advantage, and he appreciates the central role that data plays in driving strategic decision-making. His practice is founded upon understanding how technology can strengthen and expand upon the core missions of his clients’ businesses. He is a trusted advisor to companies operating in highly regulated industries, such as technology and telecommunications, healthcare, banking and financial services, investment management, insurance, retail and consumer businesses, transportation, manufacturing, and professional services providers. He also counsels startup, embryonic, and emerging growth companies.
Prior to joining the firm, Daniel served as the chair of the technology and privacy & data security groups at a national law firm. He also regularly advises and represents clients on “traditional” intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution and enforcement, inbound/outbound licensing, trademark prosecution, brand extension, digital rights management, and large transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions.
