Dr. Jens Steger

Jens Steger has been advising on international antitrust and competition law as well as antitrust compliance for several years. He and his team focus on antitrust litigation, both on the plaintiff’s as well as the defendant’s side, usually in follow-on damage litigation cases.

He also advises and represents clients in merger control proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission, as well as coordinates international merger cases, which require notification to various global authorities.

Another focus of his advice is on cooperation regarding joint ventures and the establishment and expansion of compliance management systems. In addition, Jens Steger specializes in particular, with conducting internal investigations to identify conduct within an organization that is relevant under antitrust law. WirtschaftsWoche's Top Law Firm Ranking 2019/2020 lists Jens as one of the most renowned antitrust lawyers in Germany. In 2023, Jens was nominated as a stand-out lawyer to Thomson Reuters by senior in-house counsel in large organizations.

Jens joined K&L Gates in 2021. From 2018 to 2021, he worked at another international law firm in Frankfurt, where he was the head of the antitrust practice group.

During his legal clerkship, he worked at the German Federal Cartel Office, in the antitrust and competition law practice group of another leading international law firm in Cologne and Düsseldorf, and at the 1st Antitrust Senate of the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf.

During his doctoral studies in the field of merger control, Jens worked as a research assistant  at the University of Cologne. Upon completion of his doctorate, he also obtained a master's degree in antitrust law at King's College London.

Jens regularly speaks at international conferences and frequently publishes articles in the field of German and European antitrust law. From 2016 to 2021, he was an active board member of Kartellrechtsforum Frankfurt e.V.
