Joseph Liow has over 25 years’ experience as a trial and arbitration advocate. He is admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. He is a qualified arbitrator and a fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a qualified adjudicator with the Singapore Mediation Centre.
Joseph is a trial advocate and has to date represented various clients in the building industry including developers, statutory bodies, architects, main contractors, subcontractors (specialist, nominated, and domestic), and facility managers.
He is also an adjudicator qualified by the Singapore Mediation Centre to decide on adjudication applications made under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act. He has presided in twenty six (26) adjudication applications and one (1) adjudication review.
Joseph has advised foreign banks, corporate entities, labour unions, and high net worth individuals on Singapore employment law matters including advising on the Employment Act, the Retirement and Re-employment Act, the Child Development Co-Savings Act, the Workplace Safety and Health Act, and the Personal Data Protection Act 2012. He has previously worked closely with many international law firms to provide Singapore law advice as local counsel.
He is an active member of various committees of the Law Society of Singapore and has served as the vice chairman of the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme Committee as well as the Advocacy Committee. He is an active lead trainer of the Advocacy Committee.
He served as the honorary secretary of the Society of Construction Law (Singapore) for several terms until 2010.
