K&L Gates Boosts Aviation Finance Practice with London Team Hire
Each long-recognized as amongst the leading global asset finance/aviation finance lawyers and colleagues, Perrotta and Rajagopal continue to grow their very productive practice and, as a team, have successfully concluded hundreds of transactions and projects involving commercial and business aircraft, aero engines, and other aviation assets around the world. They act for aircraft lenders, lessors, operators, and aviation businesses across the globe, primarily on secured debt and leasing matters.
“Notwithstanding our sustained success to date, we continue to develop and grow business in aviation, one of the most dynamic of industrial sectors globally,” said Rajagopal. “Always looking to both explore the myriad opportunities that exist in aviation and have a positive impact, we were excited by K&L Gates, its impressive platform, and its group of likeminded colleagues who, operating as a genuine team across the firm’s extensive network of offices, have been active in the space for a number of years. We know each other well and look forward to working as part of that team. K&L Gates already offers market-leading aviation and aviation finance capabilities, so adding London to the numerous financial centers from which it operates will extend further the firm’s global brand in the sector.”
Tony Griffiths, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ London office, stated: “With air traffic forecast to grow at 4.5 percent annually over the next 20 years, we expect there to be significant demand for passenger — and, indeed, other types of — aircraft in a wide variety of aviation markets around the globe and, consequently, the legal advice and business know-how surrounding the acquisition and leasing of these assets and related matters resulting from that trend. With the arrival of this group, we are delighted to add the experience and capabilities of one of the leading aviation finance teams, representing the ideal fit for our existing global practice.”
The team’s arrival follows the 2016 additions of London partners Barry Cosgrave from Shearman & Sterling and Mayank Gupta from Mayer Brown, both also to K&L Gates’ global finance practice.
With extensive experience representing financial institutions and leasing companies around the globe in connection with aircraft finance and leasing (including operating and finance lease) transactions, K&L Gates’ aviation industry practice comprises more than 20 partners throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, the United States, and the Middle East who regularly advise on aviation matters. In addition to providing clients with guidance and assistance on the structuring, documentation, and negotiation of aircraft finance transactions, including cross-border aircraft finance transactions involving multiple jurisdictions, the firm’s aviation lawyers also assist financial institutions on restructuring, workouts, and repossession matters.
