Sydney - Global law firm K&L Gates continues to strengthen its energy, infrastructure and resources team with the appointment of Matt Baumgurtel as a partner in its Sydney office.
Baumgurtel joins K&L Gates from leading global renewable energy projects developer FRV, where he was general counsel, company secretary, and an executive director for the Asia Pacific region. He was previously a senior associate at a global law firm in the Asia Pacific region and at an Australian national law firm.
Baumgurtel has 15 years of experience advising on energy and infrastructure projects and M&A and cross border transactions in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region, particularly in the renewable energy sector. He represents project developers, sponsors, investors, financiers, and other stakeholders in wind, solar, thermal, transmission, energy storage, and other energy projects.
“I look forward to combining my extensive renewable energy experience with K&L Gates’ leading global energy practice to deliver strategic commercial legal advice to my clients at each stage of the energy/infrastructure asset lifecycle,” stated Baumgurtel.
Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Australia, commented: “Matt is an innovative and entrepreneurial lawyer with unparalleled commercial and legal experience in the energy, infrastructure, and environment industry.
