Laura E. Smith

Laura Smith is a special projects lawyer in the firm's New York office. She is a member of the IP Procurement and Portfolio Management practice group. Laura has a wide range of experience assisting clients in connection with trademark counseling, clearance and prosecution. She has worked directly with in house legal departments in a variety of industries as diverse as medical device manufacturers, life science and bio-technology companies and high-end fashion houses.  Her long experience as an examining attorney with the U.S. Trademark Office is invaluable in navigating the prosecution and registration process on behalf of clients seeking to obtain the broadest trademark registration rights by the most efficient means possible. 

Prior to joining the firm, Laura served as a contract attorney with a New York firm where she conducted clearance searches, prepared and filed trademark applications, responded to substantive and procedural requirements issued by the US Trademark Office and prepared notices of opposition and petitions to cancel before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as petitions to make special for expedited examination in the Trademark Office. Laura also worked with foreign attorneys to obtain and enforce trademark rights overseas. Prior to her position as a contract attorney, Laura was an associate with an IP boutique firm in New York where her practice focused on start-ups and established companies in the field of biotechnology as well as high end fashion and jewelry clients. Before entering private practice, Laura was an Examining Attorney with the United States Trademark Office.

Laura enjoys spending time at her Bay House on the South Shore of Long Island with her bulldog, Fiona.
