Melissa M. Malstrom

Melissa Malstrom is an associate in the firm’s Portland office. She focuses her practice on renewable energy and infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on solar, wind, offshore, energy storage, and carbon offsets and removal. Melissa advises clients on the preparation and negotiation of power purchase and sales agreements, infrastructure development, renewable energy credit and certificate transactions, and carbon emissions reduction and offset transactions. Her experience extends to environmental compliance counseling and enforcement action defense. Melissa assists clients in navigating complex regulatory and permitting issues at the federal and state level, including water, air, species, and hazardous waste issues, as well as compliance with remediation and cleanup orders. She also represents clients in related litigation and administrative proceedings. 

Prior to joining the firm, Melissa worked as an environmental associate attorney in the San Francisco office of a California law firm. Melissa was the lead associate on a wide range of federal and state environmental litigation and enforcement matters, primarily relating to soil and water contamination. She regularly advised clients on compliance with federal and California specific environmental regulatory requirements, including waste and wastewater compliance, product labeling, environmental health and safety, and remediation. She also advised clients on the sale or transfer of contaminated properties, including negotiation and drafting of environmental indemnity and related agreements.
