Miguel Caramello Alvarez is a counsel at the firm's Brussels office. He is a member of the antitrust, competition and trade regulation practice group.
He is a regulatory and competition lawyer with more than a decade of legal and public affairs experience in Brussels. Within his practice, he focuses on all aspects of EU and international rail transport law, state aid and competition law, foreign direct investments, sustainability, public procurement, market access, and public policy. He provides regulatory and competition representation before the European Commission and other national authorities.
Miguel’s broad experience in the rail sector has been recognized by Legal 500. He advises and represents railway companies on state aid, infringement, and public procurement procedures at EU and national level including a European Court of Justice preliminary ruling. Miguel has a sound knowledge of the EU rail regulatory framework and he provides legal advice to railway operators and rail infrastructure managers on an extensive range of rail-related matters, in particular in relation to public service obligations and public service contracts, market access, and essential functions.
Combining his legal and public affairs capability, Miguel has extensive experience advising clients on foreign direct investment national screening mechanisms and coordinating multi-jurisdictional foreign investment notifications.
In regard to his regulatory and public affairs practice, and thanks to his deep understanding of the Brussels institutions, he furthermore advises on sustainability (i.e. LNG, hydrogen) and transport matters, platform regulations, and product safety.
Being a Spanish qualified lawyer, he advises and support firm`s clients on Spanish law matters and with their operations in Spain.
