Yamina Belabassi, Ph.D.

Dr. Yamina Belabassi is a patent technical specialist in the firm’s Orange County office. She works with attorneys and clients in the creation and maintenance of IP portfolios including domestic and international patent prosecution and portfolio management.

With a background deeply rooted in science and engineering, Yamina offers a wide array of expertise that fuels some of the most complex and innovative technologies of today. She applies her doctoral and postdoctoral training in helping other inventors maximize the value of their patent portfolios.

Prior to beginning a career in law, Yamina worked as a consultant at a diagnostic and medical products company where she focused on patent drafting, conducting market research, and product design and development. This experience exposed Yamina to both the technical and business aspects of IP. She later joined an intellectual property law firm as a technical specialist and scientific advisor, and has since expanded into other areas that, today, include advising on patent prosecution, validity and infringement, and patentability.

Yamina has extensive experience in a wide breadth of technologies including oil and gas, processing, small molecules and biologics for the therapy, prevention and diagnosis of disease, vaccines, biotechnology, diagnostics, cosmetics. She also assists in freedom to operate, and due diligence projects providing both analysis and searching expertise.

In addition to a biochemistry undergraduate degree, Yamina holds a Master of Science in chemistry of biomolecules, a Master of Engineering in chemical engineering and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. As a result, she is able to support a variety of industries, ranging from nanotechnology and pharmaceuticals to neuroscience and oil and gas. Although diverse in her clientele and even more diverse in patent subject matter, Yamina has a single goal when it comes to managing intellectual property: contributing to a company’s bottom line. She achieves this by helping to implement strategies that save inventors time and money, all while ensuring protection for their ideas, products, and discoveries.
