Prior to becoming an associate, James served as a patent law clerk at the firm. During this time, he drafted patent applications, including writing claims, editing and creating figures, and drafting parts of a specification. He also rewrote claims and formulated arguments for USPTO rejections. Previously, James served as a law clerk at a Pittsburgh firm, where he created a program to automate generation of title opinions, as well as drafting and exhibiting title opinions for attorney review for tax parcels in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
At the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, James was the president of the Student Intellectual Property Law Association. Additionally, he participated in the Cardozo/BMI moot court competition regarding trademark and entertainment law.
