K&L Gates Marks 10th Anniversary in Australia

Global law firm K&L Gates is marking its 10th anniversary in Australia in 2023.

The firm opened its doors in Australia on 1 January 2013 after a combination with Australian law firm Middletons. The opening of four K&L Gates offices in Australia continued a rapid expansion of the firm across the United States and Asia to that point, and in the 10 years since has seen the firm grow its footprint across 48 offices and five continents.

Nick Nichola, K&L Gates Managing Partner, Australia, said the decision by K&L Gates to establish an Australian presence has been highly successful.

"Being a part of a global legal leader has given our clients the ability to access the legal services they need at the appropriate time. We have both the strong local presence to advise Australian clients wanting to focus on the local market and the skills and experience across the global platform to assist those clients wanting to grow beyond our borders.

"K&L Gates has also provided our people with fantastic opportunities to work on cross-border matters, gain experience working alongside leading lawyers in their field across five continents and to develop their career within a global firm."

Jim Segerdahl, K&L Gates Global Managing Partner, said the addition of the Australian offices to the firm's global network has been an important development.

"Australia continues to play an increasingly important role in the global economy and is a significant trade partner to the largest economies in the world, including the Americas, Asia and Europe. That means our clients - whether they are international organisations looking to invest or do business in Australia or Australian companies doing business overseas - have relied on our Australian presence to drive important transactions and business decisions.

"We are very proud of what K&L Gates, our people and our clients have achieved over the first decade and we are focused on making sure the next decade is even better."

Nichola said the 10th anniversary is an important milestone to mark to appreciate what has been achieved, but that it is also an opportunity to plan what the next 10 years will look like.

"Our strategy for the next decade will focus on developing the legal services our clients will be needing in a rapidly changing global economy, to invest in the careers of our people in a meaningful way and to make sure we continue to be at the forefront in key areas such as innovation, community engagement and diversity in the workplace."

K&L Gates will mark its 10th anniversary in Australia with events for its people, clients and alumni throughout the year.
