K&L Gates Welcomes London Energy Partner

1 March 2021

London - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has strengthened its energy, infrastructure and resources practice with the addition of energy disputes partner Ben Holland. Holland joins K&L Gates’ London office from Squire Patton Boggs LLP.

Holland advises energy-sector clients around the world on large-scale, multijurisdictional dispute resolution, with The American Lawyer’s Arbitration Scorecard having recognized three of Ben’s LNG/gas-sector arbitrations among the world’s largest. Along with disputes concerning investments and operations across the energy sector, he is a recognized authority on rebalancing disputes under long-term international LNG, oil, gas, and coal supply agreements.

Holland’s energy disputes practice will help to further grow K&L Gates’ global energy, infrastructure and resources team, which, last fall, published The H2 Handbook — a first-of-its-kind, extensive review of the legal, regulatory, commercial, and policy issues that will impact and shape the future of hydrogen — for companies who are recognizing hydrogen’s potential and taking an active role in the industry's nascent global expansion.

Holland commented: “Joining the oil, gas, and resources practice of K&L Gates connects me and my clients with first-class lawyers across the key energy and resources jurisdictions, at a time when many global energy markets are in a state of unbalance and change, and where global lawyer teams are needed to help them move forwards.”

“Energy disputes across the world have formed a significant proportion of our regional disputes workload in the last few years,” said Tony Griffiths, K&L Gates’ managing partner for Europe and the Middle East. “Ben’s recruitment marks another important step in the build out of the energy disputes capability in the region. In particular, his experience in gas pricing disputes adds to our capability in energy arbitration and off shore energy and enables us to assist clients in navigating the turbulent current circumstances in the energy sector. We are excited to welcome Ben to the energy team in London.”

Jeremy Farr, co-leader of K&L Gates’ energy, infrastructure and resources practice area, stated: “We are thrilled to welcome Ben to our energy, infrastructure and resources practice, joining some 200 lawyers across our fully integrated, global platform serving clients in transactions and disputes across all forms of energy. His experience and reputation enhance our practice in the oil, gas, and resources sector, and will have an immediate, positive impact on our work and for our clients across the energy industry.”

K&L Gates has welcomed more than 35 partners and of counsel since the beginning of 2020, including in the firm’s corporate; health care; tax; commercial litigation; environment, land and natural resources; asset management and investment funds; IP procurement and portfolio management; IP litigation; real estate; government contracts; and investigations, enforcement and white collar practices.

K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
