Newark

One Newark Center, Tenth Floor
Newark, New Jersey 07102
United States of America

The Newark office serves a number of Fortune 500 companies locally, nationally, and abroad. Several of the office’s lawyers and practices are recognized by Chambers USA and/or U.S. News-Best Lawyers, including environmental, insurance coverage, intellectual property, and labor and employment. The office counts former presidents of New Jersey federal and county bar associations; a Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers; chair of New Jersey Law Journal’s Editorial Board; and adjunct professors of law for Seton Hall University School of Law.

Newark’s Environment, Land, and Natural Resources team has been at the center of emerging issues, including brownfields restoration, natural resource damages, and environmental justice, as well as in developing community outreach projects to gain local support for manufacturing operations and related environmental permitting. Representative experience includes favorably settling a complex environmental matter for a multibillion-dollar global company that resulted in a full recovery of the government’s share of responsibility at fifteen plants around the country that the government commandeered for military purposes.

The Commercial Litigation and Disputes team handles “must win” business disputes for plaintiffs and defendants across diverse industries. The Insurance Recovery and Counseling team handles a wide range of claims against insurance companies, including matters related to data privacy, environmental site remediation, construction accidents and manufacturing events, employment practices, and directors’ and officers’ liability coverage. The Product Liability and Mass Tort team is experienced in litigating all stages of product liability and toxic tort cases from pleadings through trial and appeal, including single defendant cases; litigation involving dozens of plaintiffs and hundreds of defendants; nationwide class actions; and in matters where they have served as regional or national coordination counsel of mass tort litigation. The Labor, Employment, and Workplace Safety team counsels management on workplace policies and practices. The team also represents employers in litigation, including class action litigation, concerning a wide variety of issues from discrimination to wrongful termination and wage and hour claims.

The Intellectual Property (IP) team advises clients in clearing, obtaining, licensing, and assigning IP; performing due diligence with respect to IP rights involved in merger and acquisition transactions; and litigating matters in federal and state court. Our Health Care team advises clients on regulatory compliance, entity formation and restructuring, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, fraud and abuse issues, corporate governance, and legal and ethical issues associated with religiously based health care services, among others.

The Real Estate practice focuses on land use, commercial and retail leasing, conveyance and financing transactions, real estate tax appeals, and real estate-related litigation. The team routinely appears before the planning and zoning boards of municipalities throughout the state, has tried numerous land use cases in the New Jersey Superior Court, and regularly argues tax appeal cases before the New Jersey Tax Court and numerous county tax boards. Similarly, our Public Policy and Regulatory lawyers understand the legal landscape in New Jersey and advise clients on policies, proposed legislation, or regulations that might affect them.

The Restructuring and Insolvency practice group represents franchisors, resort owners, real estate developers, automobile lessors, and financial institutions in all phases of debtor/creditor relations. They regularly represent franchisors in out-of-court workouts with distressed franchisees as well as collection and enforcement litigation, and appear on behalf of franchisors in bankruptcy cases throughout the United States.
