K&L Gates Energy, Infrastructure and Resources Practice Ranked by The Legal 500 United States 2020 Guide in Eight Categories with 28 Lawyers Recommended

The energy, infrastructure and resources practice of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has again received a Tier 1 ranking in the Transport: shipping - litigation and regulation category of The Legal 500 United States 2020 guide. In addition, the practice also was ranked in the Construction; Energy litigation: conventional power; Energy litigation: oil and gas; Energy regulation: conventional power; Energy regulation: oil and gas; Energy: renewable/alternative power; and Energy transactions: conventional power categories of this year’s guide.

Nearly 30 energy, infrastructure and resources lawyers were ranked or recommended by the publication in the construction, power, shipping, and oil & gas areas, demonstrating the team’s extensive industry experience and dedication to client service. Among these lawyers, those in the Transport: shipping category were noted for their “top class knowledge and litigation capabilities,” with rankings for Boston partner Jeffrey S. King and Washington, D.C., partner Michael Scanlon as “Leading Lawyers,” New York partner George Kontakis and Boston partner Luke Reid as “Next Generation Partners,” and New York associate Luke Steinberger as a “Rising Star.”

The practice advises a number of high-profile clients including Microsoft, Direct Energy, Crane Co., Marcellus Shale Coalition, and Total E&P USA. Recent matters include having assisted Microsoft with its initiative to purchase 100% carbon-free and renewable energy to meet the needs of its Redmond, Washington campus; defending Interoceanic Corporation in arbitration before the Society of Maritime Arbitrators; acting for Devon Energy Production in a multi-plaintiff litigation relating to the alleged underpayment of royalties; and advising Madison Energy Investments on the formation of a solar portfolio development entity and associated equity investment by New York private equity fund Stonepeak Partners.
