K&L Gates Intellectual Property Partner Elected to Board of Managers of The Chicago Bar Association

25 June 2020

Chicago – Alexis Crawford Douglas, a partner in the Chicago office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP, has been elected to the Board of Managers of The Chicago Bar Association (CBA). The position seats Douglas among a small number of prominent judges and lawyers overseeing the 20,000 member association, including the Mayor of Chicago, a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Northern District of Illinois, and judges of the Circuit Court of Cook County, among others. A number of associates and colleagues from the Chicago legal community offered support on behalf of Douglas’ nomination for the board, to which she will be sworn-in during the CBA’s Annual Meeting on June 25, 2020.

Previously, Douglas served in a variety of roles with the CBA Young Lawyers Section (YLS), from co-chair of the Creative Arts and L.E.A.D. (Lawyer Engagement and Development) committees, to Director, Secretary/Treasurer, and Member Services Manager. In 2018, she was awarded the Impact Award recognizing a YLS leader who had substantial impact on the Section. In addition, Douglas helped found and organize the Chicago Bar Association’s Working Women’s Legal Summits, and has made numerous contributions towards promoting diversity and the advancement of women in the legal profession. She is also a member of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court and the International Trademark Association.

“We are proud to have a talented lawyer like Alexis serving on the CBA’s Board of Managers,” said Bob Barrett, a Chicago-based partner and leader of K&L Gates’ global intellectual property practice area. “Her election to this prominent position is very much a testament to the outstanding work Alexis has already done – and will continue to do as a member of the board – on the behalf of lawyers and the profession.”

Douglas concentrates her intellectual property practice on a range of transactional and litigation matters related to trademarks, domain names, social media, and copyrights. She has experience advising clients in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices, consumer products, marketing and advertising, food and beverage, finance, and technology.

Michael E. Martinez, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Chicago office, commented: “We are delighted that Alexis has been elected to serve in this important role. We are honored to have her among our partnership and offer Alexis our continued support as she further contributes to improving the legal profession in this and other leadership capacities.”
