Jessica Cheo is a Special Counsel with experience in litigated and non-litigated personal injury matters. She advises on liability, indemnity, assessment and quantum. Jessica acts for self-insured clients in workers’ compensation matters, including common law and serious injury applications, statutory benefits claims and related disputes. She also acts for government-insured entities in the defence of general and public liability claims, sensitive institutional liability matters and recovery proceedings.
Jessica’s experience includes investigating claims, advising on liability, quantum and claims strategy, and coordinating with insured entities, government agencies, representatives, counsel and other stakeholders to progress matters efficiently. She advises on negotiation strategy, resolution options and the preparation of matters for litigation where required.
Jessica has in-depth knowledge of the Wrongs Act 1958, Limitation of Actions Act 1958, Accident Compensation Act 1985, Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013, relevant policies, regulations and ministerial guidelines, the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 and the Insurance Contracts Act 1984.
