Lucas Johncey is an associate and a member of the Construction and Infrastructure practice group. Lucas focuses on complex construction and infrastructure disputes and has experience advising clients on high-value, international matters across the UK, Middle East and other jurisdictions. His experience includes court proceedings, international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution procedures.
Lucas has acted for clients in disputes involving complex contractual, technical and commercial issues, including disputes concerning engineering and construction works, power purchase agreements and consortium arrangements. He has experience with arbitrations under the institutional rules of the ICC and DIAC, as well as with bespoke EPC contracts and standard form contracts, including FIDIC, NEC and JCT.
Lucas’ experience includes acting for a multidisciplinary consultant in a multimillion-dollar dispute before the Qatari Courts relating to an infrastructure project. The dispute was the first in Qatar to involve the appointment of a court-appointed technical committee comprising international engineering experts. Lucas has also represented a subcontractor in a complex US$1 billion arbitration concerning mechanical, electrical and specialist airport services works at a major airport in the Middle East, in a matter involving complex insolvency issues.
In addition, Lucas has experience advising on a range of major construction and infrastructure projects across the globe including powerplants, wastewater treatment plants and nanofiltration systems.
