Mallory Cooney represents clients in government investigations, regulatory enforcement actions, internal investigations, and complex litigation matters at the trial and appellate level.
Mallory’s investigations and enforcement clients include individuals, broker-dealers, international futures and swap exchanges, financial institutions, and other public and private entities in highly-regulated industries, inside and outside of the United States, with a focus on the crypto, digital assets, and derivatives space.
Mallory has represented companies and individuals in federal and state courts throughout the country, and in proceedings before state and federal regulators and enforcement authorities such as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), the National Futures Association (NFA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Customs & Border Protection (CBP), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and state attorneys general in matters concerning commodities fraud and manipulation, financial fraud, health care fraud, antitrust and unfair competition, and corrupt practices.
Mallory is committed to service, and has an active pro bono practice, including advocacy for victims of human trafficking, filing amicus briefs in death penalty appeals across the country and before the United States Supreme Court, and service on the Management Committee overseeing the Cyber Civil Rights Legal Project, a global K&L Gates pro bono initiative providing legal services to victims of nonconsensual pornography (i.e., “revenge porn”) when their explicit images are distributed and displayed online without consent. Mallory has also been named the Associate Pro Bono Coordinator for the the firm's Miami office, and utilizes her position to increase pro bono involvement amongst her colleagues.
Mallory was honored with the Florida Bar's 2024 Lynn Futch Most Productive Young Lawyer's Award for her achievements and service to the legal community, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, along with local organizations. Mallory is President of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, serves annually on both the Host Committee for the National Association of Women Lawyers' Annual Meeting and the Planning Committee for the Women's Fund of Miami-Dade's Raise the Bar event, is the Associate Chair of the Miami office's Women in the Profession Committee, and a Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Associate Liaison Committee.
          
Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mallory served as a legal intern at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, Criminal Division, in Manhattan, and as a clinical intern in a felony trial bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
Mallory was a summer associate in the Miami office of K&L Gates in 2015.
