Ryan P. Regan

Ryan Regan is an associate and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group. Ryan helps clients navigate the complexities of intellectual property litigation and strategic IP counseling, representing companies in high-stakes disputes and due diligence matters across a wide range of industries. He has successfully handled IP matters before US district courts and the US Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes review proceedings, and brings a comprehensive understanding of both litigation strategy and the underlying technologies at issue.

Ryan’s practice encompasses patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret claims, often in the context of complex patent litigation. He has represented clients on both the plaintiff and defense sides in matters involving medical devices, consumer electronics, touch-screen technologies, wireless communication, optical systems, and financial services. Ryan has experience managing cases from inception through resolution—drafting pleadings and key motions, conducting depositions, preparing witnesses for testimony, and participating in oral arguments, mediations, and settlement negotiations.

In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan assists clients with technology transactions, including intellectual property due diligence and strategic counseling in connection with significant acquisitions. He also advises on trademark clearance and procurement strategies to help clients protect and grow their brands.

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan was an associate in the Intellectual Property group at an international law firm, where he represented clients in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes, as well as IP diligence for large-scale technology transactions. Earlier in his career, he worked at an intellectual property monetization and advisory firm in Dallas, Texas, where he analyzed and marketed high-tech patent portfolios.

Ryan also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Eric G. Bruggink at the US Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC, where he focused on intellectual property disputes involving US government technology.

He began his IP career at the University of Alabama Office of Technology Transfer, where he evaluated early-stage inventions developed by faculty and graduate researchers for patentability, commercial viability, and licensing potential. In that role, he collaborated with inventors and university stakeholders to assess intellectual property strategies and provide recommendations to support technology commercialization.

Ryan earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society. He holds a B.S. in Biology, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama.
