Thomas J. Edgington

Thomas Edgington, a former mechanical design engineer, is a member of K&L Gates’ IP litigation and patents, trademarks, copyrights & related transactions practice groups. Thomas makes it a priority to fully understand the goals of his clients and their competition and is attentive to industry news and advancements, allowing him to design the patent applications which meet the challenges of the market. His practice embraces all aspects of intellectual property acquisition, maintenance, defense and enforcement. Thomas's experience includes the acquisition of foreign and domestic patents and trademarks, patentability and infringement studies, new product clearance, intellectual property audits, patent reexaminations, technology transfer and license agreements, as well as the preparation of opinions and other agreements relating to patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Thomas manages the patent and trademark portfolios of a number of companies and provides day-to-day intellectual property counseling to large and small companies as well as to individual inventors. Thomas has been involved in various types of intellectual property litigation including patent infringement litigation before the federal district courts and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Thomas has also practiced before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has also served on the firm’s hiring and associate committees.
