KL Gates Hosted Event
Date: 30 March 2026
Time: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM ET
Location: In-Person and via Webinar

We were honored to host The Hon. J. Michelle Childs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit at our Washington, DC office. Judge Childs began her career at Nexsen Pruet in South Carolina, where she became the first Black female partner at a major South Carolina firm. She later served as Deputy Director of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and as Commissioner of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. After serving as a trial judge on the Richland County Circuit Court, she was nominated by President Obama to the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and, in 2022, by President Biden to the D.C. Circuit.

In a compelling fireside chat, Judge Childs reflected on her path to the bench, the evolving role of the courts, and the importance of diverse perspectives in the legal profession. Thank you to Judge Childs and all who joined us for the discussion and reception.
