KL Gates Hosted Event
Date: 30 March 2026
Time: 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM ET
Location: In-Person and via Webinar

We will be hosting an International Women’s Day program featuring The Hon. J. Michelle Childs of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. In a fireside chat at the firm’s Washington, DC office, Judge Childs will reflect on her path to the bench, the evolution of administrative law, the role of the courts in 2026, and the importance of diverse perspectives in the legal profession. A reception will follow the program.

Judge Childs began her career at Nexsen Pruet in South Carolina, where she became the first Black female partner at a major South Carolina firm. She later served as Deputy Director of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and as Commissioner of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. After serving as a trial judge on the Richland County Circuit Court, she was nominated by President Obama to the US District Court for the District of South Carolina and, in 2022, by President Biden to the DC Circuit.
