K&L Gates Advises LS GreenLink on Plans for a Large Submarine Power Cable Manufacturing Facility in Virginia
Global law firm K&L Gates LLP advised LS GreenLink USA, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of LS Cable & System Ltd., on the site selection, economic incentives, and related real estate matters for a brownfield site of nearly 100 acres in Chesapeake, Virginia, for its new submarine power cable manufacturing facility. The strategically located site will enhance LS GreenLink's ability to meet global demand for submarine power cables.
This initiative represents a significant investment of nearly $700 million in the region and will contribute to the local economy and the advancement of renewable energy infrastructure globally. The facility is expected to hire more than 330 employees and begin operations by the end of 2027. The project is being managed by Patrick Shim, Managing Director of LS GreenLink.
K&L Gates served as the lead law firm on this real estate project led by Washington, D.C., partner Olivia Byrne and Seoul managing partner Tyler Won. The team assisted with the site selection, state and local economic incentives, as well as the real estate issues relating to the acquisition of the site.
“We are pleased to help bring such an important cutting edge project for the offshore wind industry to Chesapeake and the state of Virginia to a world-class logistics location on a deep-water site,” said Byrne, leader of the firm’s Global Location Strategies practice.
“It has been an honor to help LS Cable with this exciting project to establish themselves as a leader in offshore wind industry manufacturing in America,” Won added.
