K&L Gates Secures $14.4 Million Jury Award for Carlex Glass in Tornado Damage Case

4 February 2026

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP represented Carlex Glass America LLC in securing a $14.4 million jury award after finding that Sompo America Insurance Co. breached its commercial property insurance policy. The case involved tornado damage to Carlex’s glass production facility in Nashville, Tennessee.

Following an 11-day trial, the jury concluded that Sompo failed to cover damage to Carlex’s float-line equipment, though no breach was found for business interruption losses.

The K&L Gates team was led by Washington, DC partner Geoffrey Greeves, with Nashville partners Ryan Lee and Jason Callen, and associate Travis Vest.

Greeves said: “We are pleased the jury recognized that Sompo did not fulfill its contractual obligations. Long overdue monies for the tornado-related float-line damage will now be paid to Carlex, along with years of prejudgment interest.”

K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
