K&L Gates Triage: Opioid Epidemic: Update on Policy Issues in Washington, DC.

Date: 23 February 2018
Triage

In the third episode of our series on the national opioid crisis, Amanda Makki and Corbin Santo provide an overview of how the Trump Administration and Congress may address the opioid epidemic this year.

Following the establishment of a presidential commission on drug addiction and the opioid crisis in 2017, additional federal grant funding and numerous congressional committee hearings on the issue in the early part of 2018 may prompt action from the new Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, additional changes to the federal budget, and constituent pressure on representatives to develop legislative solutions to the opioid crisis later this year.
