Randy Xie

Randy Xie is an associate and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group. Randy previously worked as a summer associate for the firm before joining as an associate. In that role, Randy conducted legal research and drafted documents for litigation cases involving trade secret misappropriation, inter partes review, expert testimony review, motions to terminate, and motions in limine. Randy also performed research on patents and product landscapes, advised on strategic development decisions, developed infringement analyses for litigation and negotiation purposes, drafted appeal briefs, and prepared action responses for patent prosecution projects.

Randy gained experience as a student volunteer at a pro bono program for inventors, where he drafted apparatus claims, figures, backgrounds, and abstracts for designated inventions. Randy also led initial inventor interviews to evaluate the potential patentability of inventions and conducted searches on patent reports for inventor review.

Additionally, Randy served as a judicial extern for a Cook County judge. In this role, he drafted court orders on various topics, including mechanic’s lien and class action issues; reviewed, evaluated, and drafted memoranda regarding the legal and factual sufficiency of motions; and observed contested motion hearings and daily court calls.
