Mason P. Butner

Mason Butner is an associate in the firm’s Labor, Employment, and Workplace Safety practice. He focuses on  complex commercial litigation, and primarily, employment litigation, representing both employers and employees across a broad range of matters. Mason has represented employers in class and collective actions involving wage-and-hour claims in more than 10 jurisdictions, serving as sole associate and primary drafter of motions and briefs, including briefing on class certification and dispositive motions. He also has experience representing employees and senior-level executives in employment litigation involving trade secrets, restrictive covenants, and related disputes, as well as handling single-plaintiff matters alleging discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Mason formerly served as a litigation associate, where he counseled employers on employment-related matters, including implementation of arbitration agreements and restrictive covenants, handbook policy review, and advised on employment issues presented by commercial transactions. He also litigated several other commercial litigation matters, including those involving breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and business torts. Mason argued motions in state and federal courts, including the North Carolina Business Court, and participated in mediations and arbitrations.
