Hasan A. Almashat

Hasan “Has” Almashat is an associate and a member of the IP Procurement and Portfolio Management practice group. Hasan's patent practice includes preparing and filing patent application, patentability searches and opinions, responding to office actions, drafting briefs in the Patent Trials and Appeals Board, counseling clients, and strategically developing patent portfolios. His practice has also encompassed handling complex subject matter eligibility issues under 35 U.S.C. §101 for emerging as well as industry-leading companies such as Sony.

With experience in several technology areas including artificial intelligence, neural networks, high software technologies, security devices, surgical, IOT and audio devices, and industrial machinery, as well as an educational background in computer science and business, he counsels clients in a highly strategic approach to build and develop patent monopolies.

Prior to joining the firm, Hasan served as a patent attorney at a Silicon Valley law firm in California, working to develop patent portfolios for various start-ups while also managing patent portfolios of large corporations. He also has experience working internationally as a policy advisor, writing speeches for portfolio ministers, and organizing diplomatic trips in the field of international and foreign affairs.

In partnership with human rights organizations, Hasan supervises students from California’s top law firms to provide legal advocacy for refugees and displaced people. Hasan is fluent in Arabic and Kurdish.
