Insurance as an Investment

Insurance as an Investment was the fourth installment in a continuing series of webinars on the opportunities presented for asset managers and institutional investors from the intersection of asset management and insurance. In this session, we focused on how asset managers and institutional investors who are not themselves insurance companies can nonetheless make investments in insurance risk. In particular, we discussed:

• The US and UK approaches to determining the scope of activities which are reserved to insurance companies and other regulated participants in the insurance industry;
• The Lloyd's of London insurance market, from an investor's perspective;
• Insurance-linked securities; and
• Catastrophe bonds.
