K&L Gates Expands Investment Management Practice with New York Partner Addition

3 March 2016
New York - The New York office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Peter J. Shea as a partner in the firm’s investment management, hedge funds and alternative investments practice. Shea joins K&L Gates from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

Shea represents a wide range of financial services clients, including New York Stock Exchange-listed exchange traded funds, registered investment companies, hedge funds, investment advisers, broker-dealers, and other financial institutions. He advises on matters involving fund formation, registration, and compliance; broker-dealer requirements; the creation and operations of hedge funds, distressed asset funds, and other private investment vehicles; public and private debt equity offerings; and the formation and financing of start-up companies. A former staff attorney with the Security and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, Shea also counsels on SEC reporting, regulatory compliance, and proxy solicitation requirements for public entities.

“Peter possesses a deep understanding of the registration and compliance issues clients face throughout the investment life cycle,” said John A. Bicks, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ New York office. “His ETF experience rounds out the New York office’s growing investment management team and complements the firm’s overall global practice.”

Shea is the fourth partner or of counsel addition to K&L Gates’ New York office this year, following the earlier arrivals of fellow investment management partners Robert Sichel and Derek Steingarten, as well as tax-exempt organizations/nonprofit institutions lawyer Dorothy Robinson. He is the fifth investment management partner to join the New York office in the past seven months.

K&L Gates’ investment management practice is one of the largest and most experienced in the world, with more than 150 lawyers in offices in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia devoted to assisting the investment management and professional investor communities.

K&L Gates comprises approximately 2,000 lawyers globally who practice in fully integrated offices located on five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
