Maxwell J. Black

Maxwell Black is an associate in the firm’s Boston office. He is a member of the Asset Management and Investment Funds area.

As part of his practice, Maxwell works on registered and private fund offerings, representing both buy- and sell-side clients. He also works with attorneys to develop a suite of comprehensive compliance guidelines and practical advice, with a special focus on money market funds and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940.

In addition, Maxwell has collaborated with attorneys across offices and practice groups to develop a firm-wide policy with respect to new and upcoming digital asset regulations and existing enforcement actions.

Prior to joining the firm Maxwell performed research with a professor at a top 5 business school, assisted the legal department of a Russell 1000 e-commerce company, and clerked with an employment litigator. Before coming on as an Associate, Maxwell served as a summer intern for the firm. Through this role, he assisted partners and associates with insurance litigation, specifically regarding captive insurance issues. He also reviewed and amended supporting documentation for various mutual funds including annual reports, semi-annual reports, statements of additional information, and declarations of trust.
