Many 401(k) plan fiduciaries have been reluctant to include private market investments in a plan’s investment lineup due to legal and operational concerns. In June, the Department of Labor published an information letter confirming that a 401(k) plan fiduciary may offer managed asset allocation funds, such as target date funds, that include an allocation to private equity while meeting their fiduciary responsibilities.
