Peter Brabant

Peter brings over two decades of experience advising clients on disputes and investigations in the energy sector across the Asia-Pacific region. Peter has advised some of the world's leading energy companies on high profile and complex disputes and investigations in Australia, as well as dozens of other countries, including Singapore, China, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, as well as in Africa and the Middle East.

Peter's practice encompasses the full suite of disputes, including international arbitration, Australian litigation, alternative dispute resolution and pre-dispute strategic advice, and investigations, including internal, regulatory, cross-border, dawn raids, and incident response.

Peter's energy practice spans oil and gas into renewable energies. Coupled with his experience with top tier firms in Sydney and Singapore and his in-house experience, Peter has been at the forefront of the energy disputes and investigations landscape and is recognised as an industry leader having "a wealth of experience resolving complex disputes in the energy sector" (The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, 2025).

His work encompasses high-stakes disputes—including those involving billions of dollars—and a focus on decommissioning (including offshore oil and gas fields and end of life technologies and equipment, including renewables), energy transition (including climate change and carbon capture and storage), and major projects and infrastructure.

Peter is highly experienced in international arbitration, regularly representing clients and appearing as advocate in proceedings under the ICC, SIAC, LCIA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL rules. His investigative experience covers both on the ground conduct of investigations across a broad range of areas, including antibribery and corruption, dawn raids, incident response, employee misconduct, cybersecurity, fraud, antitrust, and environmental, as well as compliance and due diligence analysis.

Peter also has experience advising clients on disputes and investigations in the chemicals, projects and infrastructure, mining, construction, technology, pharmaceuticals and financial services sectors.

Before joining the firm, Peter worked at top tier international law firms in Singapore and Sydney. Earlier in his career, Peter completed a two-and-a-half-year secondment at one of the world’s largest energy companies, where he managed disputes and investigations across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This experience gave him a detailed and pragmatic perspective of the evolving regulatory and operational environments across these regions, which he now applies to support clients’ commercial operations and strategic objectives.

  • Recognised by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a Recommended Lawyer for International Arbitration in Singapore, 2025
