Jared M. Burtner

Jared Burtner’s practice focuses on complex commercial and governmental disputes, particularly in the health care sector. He regularly represents health care clients such as hospital systems, academic medical centers, and pharmaceutical companies in defending against False Claims Act lawsuits, responding to government investigations, and resolving commercial claims. Jared also maintains an active litigation practice beyond the health care sector, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of commercial contract disputes and personal and business tort actions. He also has experience litigating state and federal constitutional claims on behalf of private parties and government entities.

Prior to joining the firm, Jared was an associate attorney at a national firm. Through this role, Jared represented commercial entities, including foreign and domestic insurers, in complex commercial litigation involving contract disputes, insurance coverage disputes, and unfair and deceptive trade practices claims. In addition, he represented governmental and private entities in constitutional, civil rights, and elections-related litigation.

Prior to entering private practice, Jared served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mark Martin, Chief Justice, and before that, to the Honorable Barbara Jackson, Associate Justice, both of the Supreme Court of North Carolina.  Jared was also a member of the North Carolina Judicial Fellowship, through which he assisted North Carolina trial court judges with research and drafting in complex civil and constitutional cases.

Jared also has experience as a special agent investigator for a federal agency where he led internal investigations and received extensive training in investigation strategy and interviewing techniques.
