K&L Gates Announces German Leadership Transition
Global law firm K&L Gates has announced a leadership change in Germany: Dr. Martina Ortner has joined the firm’s global Management Committee and, together with Dr. Thilo Winkeler, assumes the role of Co-Managing Partner of the firm’s German offices in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich.
The appointment is part of a long-term succession plan. Dr. Rüdiger von Hülst, who has significantly shaped the firm’s development in Germany over nearly two decades, handed over the role of Managing Partner to his successors on 1 July.
“Together, we combine long-standing transactional experience with fresh perspectives on technology and ESG developments,” Ortner explained. “Our goal is to continue positioning K&L Gates in Germany as the go-to firm for clients in the technology, automotive, funds, and broader industrial and financial services sectors, while continuing to foster a modern law firm culture.”
Winkeler added: “Our offices in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich are located in leading economic regions of Germany. We are focused on further strengthening the connection between these locations and expanding our presence as one of the country’s leading business law firms.”
“Every founding and managing partner dreams of passing on such an exceptional firm to the next generation – and today we have done just that,” said von Hülst. “I am particularly pleased that with Martina and Thilo, a strong leadership team is ready to lead the firm’s German offices with fresh energy and a clear vision.”
K&L Gates Global Managing Partner Stacy Ackermann commented: “The partnership expresses its sincere thanks to Rüdiger for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the firm’s German offices and international positioning. Martina and Thilo’s dedication and vision will greatly benefit our lawyers and allied professionals in Germany, throughout Europe, and across the firm’s global platform.”
