Rio J. Gonzalez

Rio Gonzalez is an associate in the Miami office of K&L Gates and is a member of the labor, employment, and workplace safety practice group. His practice focuses on defending employers in the full spectrum of labor and employment matters, including employment discrimination, wage and hour violations, harassment claims, and wrongful discharge disputes before state and federal courts as well as before administrative agencies. Rio also provides solutions in day-to-day employment counseling, advises clients with respect to their employee handbooks and personnel policies to ensure compliance with state and federal law, and assists with workplace investigations.

Additionally, Rio is a member of the firm's complex commercial litigation group and assists companies in breach of contract and trade secret disputes, among others. He also supports the firm’s corporate immigration practice by providing counsel to multinational corporations and foreign nationals on all major employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories, family-based permanent resident applications, and immigration compliance.

Prior to joining the firm, Rio served as an associate at an international labor and employment law firm where he represented employers in a wide range of disputes, including discrimination and retaliation claims, non-compete enforcement, wage and hour claims, wrongful discharge claims, and claims under the FMLA.

During law school, he worked to secure immigration relief for vulnerable non-citizens through Boston University’s Immigrant’s Rights and Human Trafficking Programming. Passionate about diversity and inclusion initiatives as well as supporting the professional development of students of color, Rio remains an active alumni mentor.
