In this group, she guides clients through congressional and white collar investigations and government enforcement actions, and provides ongoing counseling to clients on a range of investigative, regulatory, and compliance issues. Tara joined the firm after serving as Senior Counsel in the General Counsel’s Office of the White House Office of Management and Budget and, prior to that, the United States Department of Health and Human Services, where she advised the agencies in connection with congressional and other investigations, and provided legal counseling on a variety of oversight, separation of powers, and regulatory matters. Tara joined Congress after working for over five years as an associate at two law firms, where she focused on white collar investigations, commercial litigation, and public interest litigation. During this time, Tara represented dozens of individual and corporate clients in connection with investigations by the United States Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and State Attorney General offices into a wide variety of alleged conduct, including wire fraud, insider trading, market manipulation, and criminal antitrust issues. She also cultivated an active pro bono practice, representing individual and non-profit clients in multiple statutory and constitutional challenges to government actions.
