Changes to Energy Policy and Energy Tax Incentives in the House Reconciliation Bill
On 21 May, Republicans in the House of Representatives passed their sweeping budget reconciliation bill which would serve as one of the legislative centerpieces of President Donald Trump’s second term. The bill includes making 2017 tax cuts permanent, rollback of the clean energy provisions included in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, and several other changes to key federal funding avenues and programs. The Senate has now begun their consideration of the budget reconciliation bill and are working to finalize the legislation before the Fourth of July.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” will have sweeping implications for the US energy industry, from rollback and repeal of certain clean energy tax incentives to reducing regulatory and permitting barriers for certain projects. Provisions of the bill from several key House committees could have long-lasting impacts on domestic energy development, environmental protection, and federal licensing.
Members of our Power and Public Policy and Law practice groups will host a discussion focusing on the wide-reaching impacts of the Republican budget reconciliation bill on the energy industry, including tax policy, permitting, energy production, effects on active development, and more. Our panel will highlight the potential impacts and responses and available legal recourse for rescissions, terminations and cancellations of federal energy loans and grants for the industry and will also consider how the reconciliation process might impact the legislation as it moves through the Senate.
