Hugh Matsubayashi is a partner who focuses his practice on patent prosecution, intellectual property portfolio management, and technology transactions. He advises technology companies on developing and implementing intellectual property strategies aligned with their business objectives, including the preparation and prosecution of US and international patent applications, portfolio development and management, intellectual property licensing, and intellectual property due diligence.
Hugh represents clients across a range of technologies, including artificial intelligence, computer hardware and software, medical devices, telecommunications, and semiconductor manufacturing. He advises startup, middle-market, and global technology companies on patent portfolio development and management, and regularly works with inventors and in-house legal teams to identify, protect, and strategically develop patent assets.
Having served as vice president of legal affairs at a venture-funded medical device startup and as senior patent counsel at a Fortune 200 enterprise technology company, Hugh brings an in-house perspective to his practice. He understands the importance of delivering practical intellectual property advice tailored to each client’s technology, commercial priorities, and internal processes.
Hugh is a member of the firmwide Opportunity and Inclusion Committee and serves as the chairperson of the Seattle office Opportunity and Inclusion Committee.
