Allessandra Stewart

Allessandra Stewart is counsel and a member of the Health Care and FDA practice. Her practice focuses on health care reimbursement compliance, defense, and litigation, with an emphasis on Medicare and Medicaid audits, False Claims Act cases, criminal investigations, and other payer-provider disputes. Her practice often involves issues regarding statistical sampling and extrapolation in the review and analysis of health care claims.

As a former federal prosecutor and civil litigator, Allessandra also has extensive trial and investigative experience working on a diverse range of matters involving, among others, parallel criminal and civil proceedings, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and money laundering investigations, the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) and bank fraud, wiretap investigations, tax fraud, and public corruption cases.

Prior to joining the firm, Allessandra spent 12 years as a federal prosecutor, serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of South Carolina and District of Columbia, as well as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Virginia. In these roles, Allessandra served as lead prosecutor in numerous jury and bench trials, investigated and indicted complex, multi-defendant white collar and violent crime cases, drafted and argued procedural and substantive motions, prepared and presented civilian, agent, and expert testimony, and coordinated with victims. Allessandra also handled special proceedings and appellate matters before the Fourth Circuit, District Courts in Virginia and South Carolina, and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Prior to her government service, Allessandra worked in private practice as a civil litigator at another global law firm, handling contract and intellectual property disputes, products liability actions, corporate criminal investigations, and antitrust matters.
