K&L Gates Bolsters Litigation Practice with Addition of Former Federal Prosecutor

31 March 2022

Research Triangle Park - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Nathan Huff as a partner in its complex commercial litigation and disputes practice. He joins the firm’s Research Triangle Park office from Phelps Dunbar.

With more than 15 years of litigation experience, Huff concentrates his practice on business, including health care, and constitutional litigation and white collar defense. He also counsels agribusinesses ranging from start-ups to large farming operations and agricultural associations.

A former federal prosecutor, Huff has first-chaired multiple federal jury trials to verdict and his experience allows him to apply the insights of a prosecutor in leading internal investigations and preventing and responding to government enforcement actions. He is a Lieutenant Colonel and Judge Advocate (JAG) in the U.S. Army Reserve. From 2010 to 2014, Huff served as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

“Our litigation group is thrilled to add a lawyer of Nate’s quality and experience to handle all types of complex business disputes,” said Jeffrey Patterson, a leader of the firm’s global litigation and dispute resolution practice area. “In addition, Nate’s wealth of experience handling high profile and politically sensitive investigations and litigation will enhance our ability to solve problems and create solutions for our clients who have to successfully navigate the intersection of business, law, and government.”

Huff is among more than 115 partners who have joined K&L Gates since January 2020, including litigation partners David Bournazian and Daniel Glassman (Orange County), Barthélemy Cousin (Paris), Paul Eckles (Charleston), and Helen Kim and Mitchell Kim (Los Angeles). The firm’s Research Triangle Park office also has welcomed partner Bobby Higdon (investigations, enforcement, and white collar), who most recently served as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, and of counsel Lou Patalano (health care and FDA) within the past year.

Mary Beth Johnston, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Research Triangle Park office and co-leader of the firm’s health care and FDA practice, remarked: “We are very excited that Nate has joined our Research Triangle Park office. He brings deep and diverse litigation experience that will be extremely useful to our clients.”

K&L Gates’ complex commercial litigation and disputes practice has the breadth, experience, and sophistication to successfully resolve matters ranging from simple commercial claims to complex multi-party, cross-border litigations, and arbitrations. K&L Gates was recognized by Forbes as one of America’s most recommended corporate law firms in the area of litigation and dispute resolution as part of the publication’s first-ever legal industry review.
