K&L Gates Continues California Growth with Addition of Emerging Growth and Venture Capital Partner to San Francisco Office

9 December 2021

San Francisco - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Jason Putnam Gordon as a partner in the emerging growth and venture capital practice. Gordon joins K&L Gates’ San Francisco office from Polsinelli LLP.

Gordon represents entrepreneurs, emerging growth companies, and investors on matters including venture capital financings, strategic alliances, corporate formations, joint ventures, complex mergers and acquisitions, sales, and divestitures. Gordon concentrates his practice on advising U.S. and international companies and investors primarily in the life sciences and health technology verticals, but also has experience in a wide range of other verticals, including artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, augmented reality, software, hardware, the Internet of Things, and agricultural technology. A former federal law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Gordon has also litigated a variety of corporate, securities, intellectual property, and commercial matters during his career.

Gordon commented: “Prior to – and accelerating in – the pandemic, my client base and their legal needs have become increasingly geographically diverse. I am thrilled to join K&L Gates, a firm with a fully integrated global footprint and a top-tier reputation with emerging companies and in the venture capital industry. Because of the firm’s breadth and depth, it is uniquely suited to allow me to fulfill my clients’ legal needs throughout the U.S. and the world.”

“We are pleased to welcome Jason to the firm’s corporate practice,” stated Annette Becker, co-leader of K&L Gates’ corporate practice area. “His extensive experience with emerging growth and venture capital clients will be a valuable addition to our west coast practice and globally and allow us to further serve existing and future clients.”

Gordon’s arrival follows the recent additions of San Francisco lawyers Shab Puri (power), H. Thomas Anderton (IP), and David Owen (asset management), as well as San Francisco and Los Angeles partner Eugene Ryu (labor and employment). They are among a dozen new partners and of counsel to join K&L Gates’ California offices since the beginning of 2020, including Helen Kim (securities and transactional litigation) and Mitchell Kim (litigation) in Los Angeles and Daniel Glassman (litigation), Rema Awad (corporate), Mincheol Kim (IP), William Tate (real estate), and J. David Bournazian (litigation) in Orange County, and among nearly 100 new partners and of counsel to join the firm’s global platform during that time.

“Jason’s practice is the perfect complement to the firm’s emerging growth and venture capital group,” said J. Matthew Mangan, managing partner of K&L Gates’ San Francisco office. “His addition brings new depth to our growing practice in California.”

Lawyers in K&L Gates’ emerging growth and venture capital practice represent emerging companies, venture funds, corporate investors, and individuals in connection with their investments in start-up and early stage emerging growth companies. These engagements involve venture capital financings, acquisitions and divestments of portfolio companies, recapitalizations, restructurings, and liquidity and realization events, including initial public offerings, with some of the world’s leading businesses having turned to K&L Gates for assistance and guidance with their most important opportunities and challenges as young companies.

K&L Gates is a fully integrated global law firm with lawyers located across five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
